The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened the NSFAS 2025 application period for anyone wanting to apply for a NSFAS missing middle loan. This NSFAS loan falls under NSFAS' Comprehensive Student Funding Model.
The deadline for submitting NSFAS 2025 Missing Middle Loan applications is 15 December 2024.
NSFAS has also said:
Applicants who have been rejected for a 2024 bursary based on a household income exceeding R350 000, will pre-qualify for a loan if their family income is less than R600,000.
NSFAS Loan Requirements
- Annual household income between R350,000 and R600,000
- Accepted to study at either TVET College or public university for either under- or postgraduate studies.
- Willing to sign a loan agreement if they qualify for a loan.
How To Apply For NSFAS Loan
NSFAS applications must be submitted online using the myNSFAS website. To apply, prospective students will need to create a myNSFAS account, then click on the ‘Apply’ tab, complete the online form, upload the required documents where applicable and then click on ‘Submit’.
Applicants are reminded to provide the correct Identity Document (ID) numbers, name(s), and surname, as reflected in their South African ID.
You will be required to accept terms and conditions that are aligned to a bursary application. Applicants accept these terms and conditions with the understanding that the similar agreements will be shared with if you qualify for a loan agreement.
A completed Consent Form is also a mandatory requirement for a loan application, to validate information from third parties.
It's important for applicants and prospective students to remember:
Students who already applied for the NSFAS bursary scheme need not to submit a new application for the student loan scheme.
What's Included In NSFAS Loans
NSFAS funding for loans is similar to the funding received for bursaries. NSFAS loan recipients will have their tuition and registration paid by NSFAS.
NSFAS loan funding will also include allowances to cover accommodation and learning materials.
Once the student is graduate and becomes employed, they will then need to pay the NSFAS loan back.
