The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed which qualifications receive NSFAS funding at universities and TVET colleges.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. The funding includes money for tuition and registration fees as several allowances for living expenses, accommodation and learning materials.

This funding covers tuition, registration fees, living expenses, accommodation, and learning materials.

Meeting eligibility criteria isn't enough. Ensure your chosen course appears on the NSFAS-funded list to avoid disqualification.

University Degrees Funded by NSFAS

  • Higher Certificates or National Higher Certificates (Level 5 of the NQF)
  • Undergraduate Degrees (Levels 6, 7 or 8 of the NQF): This includes Advanced Certificates, Diplomas (minimum 240 or 360 credits), National Diplomas, and National First Degrees (minimum 480 credits). All must be accredited by the Council on Higher Education.

TVET College Qualifications Funded by NSFAS

  • Pre-Vocational Learning Programmes (PLPs): Funding for one term only.
  • National N Certificates (NATED/Report 191): Funding for one term for introductory courses.
  • National Certificates (NC(V)): Must belong to the General and Further Education and Training Sub-Framework on the NQF.
  • Occupationally Approved Programmes: Must have DHET approval for NSFAS funding.

This information is based on the 2024 NSFAS Eligibility and Criteria And Conditions For Financial Aid.

Contact your chosen university or TVET college to definitively confirm if your specific course receives NSFAS funding.
