This government bursary scheme provides essential funding to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses, making tertiary education accessible to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

NSFAS offers financial support beyond tuition. Students receive allowances to cover essential costs such as accommodation, food, transport, and learning materials.

NSFAS Allowance Breakdown for 2024

University Students:

  • Living allowance: R16,500 annually (R3,045 for personal care + R13,455 for meals)
  • Learning material allowance: Up to R5,460   

TVET College Students:

  • Living allowance: R10,000 annually
  • Learning material allowance: Varies by course

NSFAS Allowances for September 2024

NSFAS meal and personal care allowances are distributed in ten monthly payments. In September, students can expect:

  • Meal allowance: R1,345
  • Personal care allowance: Approximately R300 (for students in catered accommodation)
  • Students living more than 10km from campus receive a transportation allowance of up to R771 per month.

How NSFAS Allowances Are Paid
