Over Half A Million Students Approved For 2025 NSFAS Bursaries

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has approved funding for over 550,000 students to pursue their tertiary education in 2025. This significant investment ensures that countless young South Africans can access higher education, regardless of their financial circumstances.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is urging all prospective students to apply for funding before the 2025 NSFAS application deadline of Sunday, 15 November 2024.

NSFAS provides comprehensive financial aid to deserving South African students enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. This aid includes:

  • Bursaries: Covering tuition, registration fees, and allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
  • Student Loans: To assist with study costs.

NSFAS would like to remind all prospective applicants that the 2025 NSFAS bursary and loan applications cycle will close on 15 December 2025 at 24h00 midnight.

The 2025 NSFAS application period will not be extended.

Since the application window opened on 20 September 2024, NSFAS has received a significant number of applications including over 738 000 bursary applications and nearly 50 000 loan applications. Of these, a substantial number of applicants have been provisionally approved for funding.

Almost 543 357 bursary and 12 210 loan applicants are provisionally approved for funding.

"Applicants should remember that timely submission is key to securing financial assistance from NSFAS. Applicants are therefore urged to mark their calendars and ensure that they complete all required steps before the closing date."
