In recent years, a number of tertiary students and student leaders have complained about the glitches that they faced when submitting their National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) online funding application.
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has announced that the government bursary scheme has seen significant changes to its online application system.
This system has been simplified and developed to be more user friendly for students who will be applying for funding through Nsfas.
According to the Higher Education Minister Dr. Blade Nzimande has been made to be similar to other platforms that prospective applicants are accustomed to. In a statement, the bursary scheme has announced:
Nsfas is now available on WhatsApp and through USSD to make it easier for our students to get updates.
According to Nsfas, this new form of communication platforms will allow prospective students to access critical information regarding their funding applications.

The Scheme has shared that joining the Nsfas Whatsapp or Nsfas USSD platforms are a fast and efficient way to track your Nsfas application.
The scheme had to follow a number of processes, including validation before these platforms can be made available to the public.
Before these two Nsfas additional platforms had been released to the public, Nsfas CEO, Andile Nongongo continued to make mention of these platforms having been stabilised, and all teething issues picked up have been addressed.
