NSFAS, which funds numerous Unisa students, will distribute allowances via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) directly into students' bank accounts.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials
Allowance Disbursement and Troubleshooting
Unisa has confirmed that "NSFAS allowances are paid by the institution via EFT in the student’s bank account." This aligns with the standard allowance payment procedure for all university students.
Students who encounter discrepancies or missing allowances are advised to contact the Unisa student funding department at [email address removed].
Study Fee Balances and Funding Limitations
Students may observe outstanding balances on their study fee accounts despite approved NSFAS funding. This is due to tuition fee payments often occurring later in the academic year. It's also important to note that NSFAS does not cover historical debt for newly funded students.
An outstanding balance will not impede students' access to essential university services, including study materials, assignment marking, and examinations.
NSFAS funding is limited to students pursuing their first qualification and courses covered by its funding policy. Additional charges, such as supplementary exam fees, remarking fees, and textbooks billed directly to the study fee account, are not covered by NSFAS.
