The 2024 application period for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) commenced in November. The question many have been asking is, what is the deadline for applicants to submit their applications? In this article, we speak about the NSFAS 2024 closing date.
This application period opened later than others as applications usually open in August or September.
The ongoing application window for NSFAS is set to conclude on 31 January 2024, giving prospective students under a month left to apply.
The Minister of Higher Education, Training, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, explained that NSFAS delayed its opening this time to obtain information from SARS regarding tax returns. This enables NSFAS to determine the combined household income by reviewing tax returns submitted to the tax authority.
This underscores the significance of applicants being truthful on their applications. In past years, numerous NSFAS students lost their funding midway through the year after it was revealed that they had provided false information on their funding applications.
The Minister addressed additional modifications in a recent briefing just before the official commencement of the application period. These adjustments are aimed at enhancing both the application process and the execution of the bursary scheme. As a result of these changes, applicants will be required to submit fewer documents than in previous years.
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that young individuals need not wait for their matric results before submitting their NSFAS applications.
