The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) has revealed that more than 200,000 students have applied for funding for the 2023 academic year. However, many students who started the process of submitting a Nsfas application may not have completed it.
Nsfas opened the 2023 bursary application period on 28 September 2022 and, to date, has received more than 230,000 applications for students.
The bursary scheme is concerned that some students have not completed their Nsfas bursary applications. This could unfortunately jeopardise their tertiary education funding.
Nsfas explained that several students created a myNsfas account but have not submitted a Nsfas bursary application.
They explained that simply creating a myNsfas account does not mean that you applied for funding. Students who wish to apply for a Nsfas bursary will have to log into their myNsfas account and follow the prompts to submit their funding application.
“Please note that creating a myNSFAS account does not mean you have applied for funding. After creating an account, you need to log in to your myNSFAS account using your ID number and password, click on the apply now button, and follow the steps to apply” declared the bursary scheme.
Students have until 31 January 2023 to complete their Nsfas bursary applications. Students are encouraged to submit applications before the deadline.
