The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a tertiary funding scheme which aims to provide funding to disadvantaged students who wish to pursue a tertiary education but cannot afford to do so.
NSFAS funds 50 TVET Colleges and 26 public universities across South Africa, and the University of Zululand (Unizulu) is one of those universities.
Thus, NSFAS does cover Unizulu courses.
So if you are a Unizulu student or prospective Unizulu student and you require funding then you should apply for a NSFAS bursary.
The NSFAS bursary covers the following expenses:
- Tuition
- Registration
- Food
- Personal care
- Learning Material
- Accommodation or transport
In order to qualify for NSFAS funding you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- All SASSA grant recipients qualifies for funding
- Applicants combined household income must be more than R350 000 per annum
- Person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Must applying or attending one of South Africa's public universities
NSFAS will fund students for the duration of their course or degree, as long as they pass their modules, however they will grant students an extra year of funding if they were to fail one year.
