The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a bursary that offers to fund students who would otherwise not be able to afford tertiary education costs.
NSFAS covers courses that are available at South Africa’s 50 TVET colleges and 26 public universities. This, unfortunately, means that NSFAS does not cover Varsity College courses because it is a private institution.
Varsity College offers full-time, part-time and distance learning courses. Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, IT, Finance and Accounting, Law and Management courses are provided.
The bursary does not cover the following:
- Private institution/college courses
- Part-time courses
- Short courses
- Postgraduate courses
- Second degrees
The bursary covers tuition fees, registration costs, accommodation, transport and various allowances.
Varsity College does however offer bursaries, scholarships and financial aid to students who are in need.
Students who still require funding may apply for a student loan from a bank or education loan specialist company such as Fundi.
Since Fundi specialises in education loans, it may be able to help students cover tertiary education costs such as registration fees, tuition and learning materials.
