The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides fully subsidized free tertiary education to underprivileged students who hope to attend a public university or TVET college.
Since the University of Mpumalanga is a public university, NSFAS will fund any student who meets the bursary requirements which are as follows:
- South African citizen or permanent resident.
- All SASSA grant beneficiaries are eligible.
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year.
- Persons with disabilities combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum.
- Students who started studying before 2018 and whose combined household income is not more than R122 000 per year.
The bursary covers tuition fees, registration costs, accommodation and transportation costs.
It is the responsibility of the university to assist students with the coordination of funding between the university and NSFAS.
NSAS covers most of the courses with a formal qualification at the university. However, only undergraduate qualifications are funded.
Students are advised to check the university's website for further details so that they are aware of the requirements and expectations that go along with being funded by NSFAS.
