The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has started contacting shortlisted teaching assistant candidates for interviews, a crucial step in filling over 200,000 job opportunities across South African schools.
These positions are part of the fifth phase of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
Interview Invitations Issued
Shortlisted applicants are receiving SMS invitations for interviews from either their prospective schools or relevant Provincial Education Departments (PEDs). The interview window runs from May 19 to May 31, 2025.
The shortlisting process, which involved ranking applications against eligibility criteria, concluded on May 18, 2025.
Key Information for Candidates
Candidates must be available for interviews during the specified period. The DBE advises that applicants who do not receive an interview invitation by June 1, 2025, should consider their applications unsuccessful. SAYouth will not provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
Roles available include Reading Champions, e-Cadres/ICT Assistants, Curriculum Support Assistants, Handypersons, and Laboratory Assistants, among others.
Successful Candidates Start June 2
Successful candidates who complete the interview and contracting stages will begin work on June 2, 2025. Each will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, plus R30 for data.
The contracting process for selected candidates is expected to be finalized by May 31, 2025.
