The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
The myNSFAS portal is your central hub for all things NSFAS. This is where you'll apply, check your application status, track your allowance payments, and even apply for NSFAS accommodation.
How to Check Your NSFAS Status
- Log in to the myNSFAS student portal. This is your main access point to the NSFAS website. You'll need your ID number to log in.
- Enter your password and click "SIGN IN."
- Click on "Track Your Funding Progress" to view your application status.

- Application Submitted: Your application has been successfully submitted.
- Application in Progress: Your application is being reviewed to confirm:
- Student type (FTEN/Senior/Continuing)
- Sassa indicator
- Disability indicator
- Application type (Active/Automated/Hybrid)
- DHA relationships (Mother/Father/Spouse/Guardian)
- Verification: Your application is being verified for:
- Unverified parent/spouse/guardian details
- NSFAS Consent Form
- NSFAS Disability Annexure
- NSFAS Orphan/Vulnerable Child Form
- Case statuses:
- Awaiting verification (checking completeness)
- Awaiting documents
- Verification completed
- Case closed (no documents provided in 30 days)
- Requesting Financial and Academic Data: Awaiting data confirmation to assess financial and academic eligibility.
- Assessing Financial Eligibility: Assessing income threshold using:
- SARS data
- Exceptions data
- Credit bureau data
- Declared household income data
- Awaiting Academic Results: Evaluating academic eligibility criteria while awaiting results.
- Assessing Academic Eligibility: Evaluating academic eligibility criteria and/or TVET and University N+ Rule.
- Duplicate: A duplicate application has been submitted for the same cycle.
- Funded subject to registration and availability of funds: Your application has passed all evaluations, met funding criteria, and is pending registration and fund availability.
- Registration Received: Your application has passed all evaluations, met funding criteria, and your registration has been received from the institution.
- Cancelled application: You have cancelled the submitted application.
- Rejected: Your application did not meet cfunding criteria and conditions. You will not receive funding
