The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has outlined how Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students will receive their allowances in 2025, including the upcoming April payments.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

Direct Bank Payments Continue for TVET Students

"The allowance payment channel for TVET College students remains in their bank accounts," NSFAS confirmed.

This direct payment system, implemented in 2024, aims to streamline the process, reduce delays and non-payments, and improve cost-effectiveness for NSFAS.

Eligibility and Required Actions

Only students who have been approved for NSFAS funding and have submitted their registration information to NSFAS are eligible for allowance payments.

Students can update their banking details on the myNSFAS portal by following these simple steps:

  1. Visit the myNSFAS portal
  2. Log in using your myNSFAS credentials.
  3. Select "Bank Account Details" under "Profile Information."
  4. Enter your bank details accurately.
  5. Click "Save."

NSFAS emphasises the importance of maintaining updated profiles and submitting banking details on time to ensure timely allowance payments.

Encouraging Bank Account Openings

"Colleges should encourage new NSFAS-qualifying students to open bank accounts at any of the South African banking institutions," NSFAS stated.

This will facilitate the timely disbursement of allowances to all eligible students.
