King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) TVET College students facing eviction due to NSFAS allowance delays can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is committed to resolving outstanding payments and preventing future disruptions.
Following concerning reports of student evictions at KSD TVET College due to NSFAS delays, Administrator Freeman Nomvalo met with key stakeholders at the Ngcobo campus. The meeting addressed the critical issue of unpaid allowances, particularly those for accommodation.
Upon receiving social media reports regarding the plight of students at the KSD TVET College, the NSFAS Administrator committed to swiftly resolving the challenges experienced by the students, particularly given the seriousness of the matters confronting the students relating to payment of allowances and student accommodation.
A list of affected students was compiled and submitted to NSFAS for immediate payment processing. Payments for Ngcobo campus student allowances will begin on 25 June 2024.
A statement released by NSFAS read, "The list of all the affected students was handed over to NSFAS for processing and the meeting resolved that the Ngcobo campus student allowances will be paid from the 25th June 2024".
NSFAS has already commenced with the clearing of all legitimate outstanding payments. Landlords who did not submit their claims for outstanding payments are still encouraged to refer their queries to our dedicated email address NSFASAccomProv [at] nsfas.org.za (NSFASAccomProv[at]nsfas[dot]org[dot]za)
NSFAS appealed to landlords to halt evictions due to outstanding payments, assuring them of swift action on legitimate claims. Landlords can submit claims through the dedicated email address.
To prevent similar issues and improve overall management, NSFAS will launch provincial accommodation roadshows in July. These sessions aim to understand the unique needs of each institution and disseminate clear guidelines and processes for student accommodation allowances in 2025.
To further deal with issues affecting student accommodation, NSFAS will be undertaking provincial accommodation road shows from July in all provinces. The roadshows are aimed at understanding different institutional dynamics and sharing NSFAS accommodation guidelines and processes to ensure a seamless accommodation application process for 2025.
By addressing immediate concerns and implementing proactive measures, NSFAS strives to create a smooth and supportive environment for both students and landlords.
