TVET College Allowance Payment Plan
NSFAS has confirmed that it will continue paying allowances directly into the bank accounts of students enrolled in approved TVET Colleges. This payment method, introduced in May 2024, ensures students receive their allowances for living expenses and other necessities in a more cost-effective manner.
The new system has reduced the cost of disbursing allowances, cutting transaction fees from R22 per student to less than R1. To avoid any payment delays, NSFAS urges students to ensure their banking details are uploaded and verified on the myNSFAS portal. Approximately 11,000 students have yet to provide their banking information, which may result in delayed payments.
How TVET Students Can Upload Bank Details
Students at TVET Colleges can upload their banking details by following these steps:
- Visit the myNSFAS portal.
- Log in using your myNSFAS credentials.
- Select "Bank Account Details" under "Profile Information."
- Enter your bank details.
- Click "Save."
University Allowance Payment Plan
For university students, NSFAS had initially announced in April 2024 that universities would handle the disbursement of allowances until the end of July 2024. This arrangement was later extended, with NSFAS confirming that universities will continue to manage allowance payments through the end of the academic year.
Following discussions between Universities South Africa (USAF) and NSFAS Administrator Freeman Nomvalo, it was agreed that universities will oversee student allowance payments for the remainder of 2024. NSFAS will continue to release funds to institutions based on verified student registration data.
