The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has outlined its allowance payment plans for September 2024. To ensure a smooth disbursement process, students are urged to familiarize themselves with the details below.
NSFAS provides financial support to deserving South African students enrolled in approved higher education institutions. This includes universities and TVET colleges.
Funding covers tuition, registration fees, and essential allowances for living expenses, accommodation or transport, and learning materials.
NSFAS Allowance Payments for TVET College Students
NSFAS will continue to deposit allowances directly into the bank accounts of TVET college students. This system, implemented in May 2024, has streamlined the payment process, reduced costs, and improved efficiency.
Update Your Banking Details
To avoid delays, all TVET students must ensure their bank account information is accurate and up-to-date on the myNSFAS portal. Approximately 11,000 students have yet to complete this crucial step.
How to Update Your Bank Details
- Log in to your myNSFAS account.
- Navigate to the "Profile Information" section.
- Select "Bank Account Details."
- Enter your correct bank account information.
- Save the changes.
NSFAS Allowance Payments for University Students
Following a decision made in collaboration with Universities South Africa (USAF), NSFAS has confirmed that universities will continue to manage student allowance payments for the remainder of the 2024 academic year. NSFAS will provide funds to institutions based on verified student registration data.
NSFAS is developing a new payment system with an anticipated launch in September 2024. However, the final timeline may be adjusted due to the current arrangements. Further details about allowance distribution for the 2025 academic year will be released at a later stage.
