Applications for the 2023 cycle opened on 28 September 2022 and are set to close early in the new year.

In a tweet, Nsfas said:

"Good day fam, please note that applications for NSFAS funding for the 2023 academic year will close on January 31, 2023. Please visit our website and apply on time."

Speaking at the media briefing for the 2023 application process last week, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande explained that applications were opened sooner than usual to give prospective applicants more time to complete their applications and submit supporting documents.

To qualify for a NSFAS Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Plan on registering or are registered at a public university or TVET College in South Africa.
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding.
  • Combined household income comes to R350 000 or less.
  • If you are living with a disability, your combined household income must come to R600 000 or less.

Prospective students have been warned not to wait until the last minute and are urged to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Nsfas says the application process has been simplified and the questions asked have been formulated so that they are easier to understand.

Visit the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za for more information on how to apply.
