The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed the 2025 application dates for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students, including the Trimester 3 NSFAS application period.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
Applications are now open for students planning to start their studies at the beginning of the 2025 academic year.

NSFAS TVET College Application Dates
TVET college programmes do not follow a traditional January-to-December academic calendar. Instead, they may start at different times during the year and are divided into semesters and trimesters.
NSFAS application periods are aligned with the TVET college academic calendars, ensuring students can apply for funding when starting their programmes.

How To Apply For NSFAS
All applications must be submitted online via the myNSFAS portal, as NSFAS has announced that there will be no walk-in application period in January.
Steps to Apply:
- Visit the NSFAS website and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the required sections.
- Upload the necessary supporting documents (if applicable).
- Click ‘Submit’ to finalize your application.
NSFAS Requirements for TVET College Students
To qualify for NSFAS funding, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be registered or intending to register for a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme.
- Comply with the N+Rule.
- Not enrol in a qualification that duplicates any previously state-funded learning.
- Have a combined gross family income of up to R350,000 per annum for a bursary or up to R600,000 for an NSFAS loan.
