Will NSFAS Cover CPUT Courses?

NSFAS is an all inclusive bursary for higher education studies and sees millions of applications every year. Are you wondering if NSFAS will fund CPUT students?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has the task of disbursing NSFAS bursaries, funding millions of students over the past few years.

Students from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) might be seeking funding and should definitely be considering a NSFAS bursary. Will they qualify though?

Yes, CPUT courses can be covered by a NSFAS bursary. There is however a set criteria the student has to meet to have their NSFAS application be approved.

The requirements are:

  • Household income must come to under R350 000 per year
  • If you're a person with a disability, household income must be under R600 000 per year
  • SASSA beneficiaries immediately qualify
  • Must be accepted or applying to a Public University
  • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident

NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act.

NSFAS funded students don't only have their tuition covered but, they also receive a number of different allowance.

The allowances are:

  • Accommodation allowance
  • Transport allowance
  • Living allowance
  • Learning material allowance
  • Incidental/personal care allowance

Depending on what your needs are and whether you live away from home while studying, your NSFAS allowances differ.
