The national Budget speech from the Finance Minister has been a fixture on the parliamentary calendar since the launch of the democratic parliament.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was set to update the country on the government plans for taxing and spending over the next year. Sassa grant beneficiaries were looking for news on the future of the SRD Grant. Would it be converted to a Basic Income Grant? Or would it be scrapped as it is expensive for the government to manage.

Roads were closed and a large dome tent was installed near the parliament building for the Finance Minister to deliver his speech.

This is a developing story.
