Study grants are one of the many types of financial assistance that are provided to students through government departments, foundations, or various other companies and organizations.

These grants are not repayable and support the education of students at various levels. They are normally not affiliated with any university or college, but are offered solely through a third-party source.

A study grant usually covers all the aspects of student needs similar to a bursary or scholarship. These grants help to pay for the necessities associated with higher education such as tuition, accommodation, study materials and textbooks.

Some grants are also provided to students based on specialized work or study research. Organisations and companies will often offer grants to students who work in specific fields.

List of organisations and companies that offer Study Grants:

  • Naspers
  • Sasol
  • Engen Petroleum
  • BMW
  • Golden Arrow Bus Services
  • Unilever
  • Nedbank
  • MTN
  • Anglo American

One of the main requirements for eligibility for a study grant is the students financial status. Similar to bursaries, study grants are typically not awarded on the basis of academic achievement and as a result, students who fall into the low-income category are more likely to receive these grants.
